With the airfares going high day by day, it seems, the cost for airline reservation can turn out to be too much, particularly when going out with whole family. It is quite feasible to look at the budget of air travel prior to airline reservation as budget airfares enable you to fly wherever you want without added expenses. Large numbers of air lines are opting for the budget airfare travel to keep flying costs low and to attract more and more people towards their airline.

Sometimes, you may secure low air fare if you change flights for one or more than one time. Once the air line reservation is done, hang on for the verification email that you may receive shortly after paying for the tickets. Various airlines also have e-ticketing arrangements that allow you to print your ticket at home. However, in any case make sure that you keep all the information at safe place and reconfirm the take off and landing day and dates and times.

Nevertheless there are various travel agencies that offer the facility of air line reservation for various destinations, but takes loads of commission for booking the ticket. However booking with an agent can be quite expensive but it lessens the burden of standing in queues and waiting for the reply and ticket print out.

In addition, like the airline reservation hotel reservation is also very essential before going on a holiday, as some hotels remain booked almost in every season and due to which you may have to seek foe the hotel after reaching the destination, which may take your loads of time and money as well. Book the hotel in the off season and when doing hotel reservation make sure to book a room with adequate number of beds required, and also verify the total price including service charges and taxes.

Many hotels do not include taxes in the room rate, thus calculate your total hotel price. Furthermore, inquire for any other costs involved as well. Make proper airline reservation and hotel reservation and enjoy maximum of your holidays.

Want to Go On A Trip - Utilize The Possibilities Provided By The Internet and Save Money

When you have to arrange your holiday, where can you look for the required information or organizations that will assist you? Everyone of us must remember the vacation which was arranged in the last minute by the traveling bureau. But there is a method to arrange all exactly how would you like it: any kind of transport, any hotels etc.. Planning your trip in your special way is not only a psychological but also an material benefit, as the cost of special online promotions proposed by airlines and hotels are mostly lower than that offered by travel agencies in the "real" world. But now the issue is: what sites to select in order to find the most advantageous offers and save not only funds but also time?

So, the main thing we need for the trip: a airplane ticket to the location where we intend to take rest. Almost all airways are now displayed at booking websites, such as expedia.com, travel.com and cheapflights.com. The first position is now held by Expedia - the biggest and the well-known server which, as it is stated on the site, "brings consumers everything they need for researching, planning, and ordering the entire trip". Expedia has truly a great amount of various content but it is not always possible to search out exactly what you need. There is Travel.com which is also considered to be very famous. Its appearance is quite understandable even for not advanced visitors. Cheapflight.com was created especially for travelers who are searching for the most beneficial flight deals, but its quality is not certainly excellent. Another really important aspect of a nice rest is the booking of the comfortable and pleasant hotel. It is also can be completed by means of the global network.

Actually, a lot of websites today propose hotels deals together with tickets. Expedia.com and Travel.com are exactly such servers of "multiple" booking. The advantage of that systems is that you will spend less time looking for these proposals separately. But there is a probability that you must make a choice between the hotels that are offered by Expedia.com or Travel.com instead of the hotel that you want to stay in. The special hotel booking sites are able to prevent you from selecting the hotel which is offered by the reservation complex. There is a great website titled catalogue.horse21.net for such purposes. Both resources keep a large hotel database and offer accommodations all over the world. The booking action on Horse21.net is easier and well-organized than on Venere.com (I tried to book some of the Bangkok hotels in both systems), so I had no complexity to find and book a hotel that I selected from about 20 similar ones leaded by prices, descriptions and users' reviews accessible on a simple click upon the title of the hotel.

As for move inside the stat you plan to visit, your possibilities depend on the kind of transport you prefer. To book railway tickets, for example, it is good to find national sites proposing tickets of the state you're going to - that was what I did once at sncf.fr. To enjoy the journey, take care about all the organizing actions are prepared properly. You can successfully complete it using Internet!

When you need to arrange your holiday, where can you search for the needed information or organizations that can assist you? The analysis of Internet travel agencies

How do you organize your holidays? Following the way made by your associates, friends or relatives? Everyone of us must remember the holiday which was planned in the last minute by the traveling bureau. Many people would like to have the super travel scheme when they can choose from various kinds of transport and other trifles. Estimating your journey in your special way is not only a psychological but also an economical benefit, as the prices of special internet promotions offered by airways and hotels are mostly lower than that offered by travel bureaus in the "real" world. Futher, I offer several solutions which result from my own experience of planning vacation by Internet.

So, the first thing we require for the travel: a plane ticket to the place where we want to take rest. Almost all airlines are now presented at booking sites, such as expedia.com, travel.com and cheapflights.com. The leading position is now held by Expedia - the biggest and the well-known server that, as it is announced on the website, "delivers consumers anything they need for researching, arranging, and purchasing the entire journey". But the interface of Travel.com is much simpler and easier to use in comparison to Expedia where the quantity of data is capable to bewilder an unpracticed user frightening him or her of booking whatever via the Internet. You will find the cheapest tickets on cheapflights.com but there is no guaranty that the flight would be quite snug. The quality frequently corresponds to the price. Another really necessary aspect of a nice rest is the booking of the suitable and pleasant hotel. It is always can be completed by means of the Internet.

Today you are able to simply search out the hotel deals on the websites where you order the tickets. Expedia.com and Travel.com both offer all the forms of such facilities. That system is of great advantage, as you save your time booking flight and hotel at the same site. But there is a probability that you must make a choice between the hotels that are proposed by Expedia.com or Travel.com instead of the hotel that you want to stay in. In quest of a website where I would be able to evade being leaded by the reservation system to the proposal of its choice, I hit on some resources specializing in hotel booking: venere.com and catalogue.horse21.net. The information about of hotels from all over the world is included into the catalogue of this site. I had impression that hotel proposal on Horse21 is a bit larger than that of Venere.com (probably this is because of the server interface as well: on Horse21 all hotels are literally spread before your eyes thanks to the clear and orderly classification of Paris hotels, for example, you can book there).

You must realize that after you arrive to the country you want to visit, you will have to move inside of it by means of different transport. If you plan a car trip, rentacar.com and hertz.com are the recognized leaders in the sphere of car rental; difficult to choose. No matter which servers you will choose to plan your journey, the main thing is to like it. So good luck and don't hesitate to order utilizing Internet!

Very often when you decide to have a perfect holiday you just don't know where can you search for suitable information. Everyone of us should remember the holiday which was planned in the last minute by the traveling bureau. Most of people would like to have the special travel program when they can select from different types of transport and other trifles.

Family Adventure Holidays In France

Whether you fancy white water rafting, horse riding, mountain biking or hiking, these are just some of the adventure holidays on offer in France, and with so many different activities on offer your holiday can range from the extreme sports to the more sedate, through to adult only adventures, what ever you decide this sort of holiday is never going to be boring, plus all the family can be involved together, which can also make for a great learning experience.

Complete package holidays are a good way of getting the holiday you want without the hassle and these can be catered specifically for your needs, yet you can also choose to book specific activities for a day here and there whilst on your holiday. And when booking your adventure holiday, you would normally be in a reasonably small, informal group of around three to five families, or a social group of around 15 to 30, which would be headed by a trained tour leader and representative. You will also find that this can be a great way to meet other like minded families and individuals, whilst enjoying yourselves and, of course, testing yourselves to the limits along the way.

There are some people that would think of white water rafting or sky diving as extreme adventure sport, whilst others would think of cycling to one place, then going on horse back to another as a great adventure. But the truth is, there is an adventure holiday available to suit all tastes and some are more strenuous than others, so please do always check the itinerary thoroughly and make sure it is going to be suitable everyone.

You can also choose from activities such as canoeing and rafting in the Ardeche, canyoning, tubing and mountaineering in the Alps, horse riding in Brittany, paragliding and climbing in the Pyrenees, or why not go to Chamonix which is a real mountain town, full of history and is popular for skiing holidays, but also provides amazing summer mountaineering and with the diverse terrain it is mostly suited to the experienced for some of the worlds best winter riding.

Why not visit the Gorge d'Ardeche is also known as the Grand Canyon of Europe and as the river winds its way past steep canyon walls and towering cliffs, this creates the ideal location for canoeing, climbing and walking both for the experienced and the novice alike.

The Alps Maritime is like discovering the true France and even though the Roya Valley is only around one hours drive from the Riviera, it is still very unspoilt, and the valley itself is renowned for its many canyons and with the fast flowing river and mountain scenery, this could be the perfect location for an exhilarating family adventure holiday with lots of different activities to choose from, so you could never become bored, just possibly exhausted!

Also, France has lots of lakes and miles of coastal water suitable for water skiing and other water sports, although the areas in the South of France are far warmer, which gives it an added advantage.

Also this country has some of the finest terrain for mountain biking, which is probably why France has been able to produce some the best mountain bikers in the World, but there are also lots of other adventures that might take your fancy, which could include pony trekking, kayaking, scuba diving, wind surfing, hiking, rope courses, caving, abseiling, thrilling jumps into pools, quad biking and much, much more.

Just make sure that whatever type of adventure holiday you are looking for, you think of everyone that is in your party, as some activities are not available for children under certain ages, so you do need to consider what will be appropriate, after all if you like cycling but have a heart condition, then mountain biking is not going to be beneficial!

There are some trips that will cater for the experienced, such as rafting down rapids or ice climbing for the experienced rock climber, whereas a novice or for instance someone that has never even been in a canoe or on a horse before, would need to look at having some tuition incorporated within their holiday before they could attempt some of the activities on offer.

Also, do confirm the equipment, if any, that you will need to take with you along with any specific clothing requirements, such as hiking boots or your own life jacket, just as we had to get a life jacket for our daughter due to her age, as there were not any available in very small sizes and the last thing you want is to get to your destination and realise you cannot participate in the activities you were so looking forward to.

So for anyone who is interested in outdoor adventure travel then this type of holiday can really show you the real France by taking you off the normal beaten track and into the heart of this remarkable country.

Have you ever considered taking the family on an adventure holiday in France? it may be just what the whole of the family has been looking for.

Stop! Don't Break the Law during Your Fun Family Vacations!

There's no denying it: Wacky laws are everywhere. No state is immune to archaic rules and regulations, and some may be considered valid even if they don't make much sense. Since you wouldn't want to break the law while enjoying some "R&R" on your next family vacation spot, we'll educate you on some of the funnier (and stranger) of these oddball laws.

No Bear Wrasslin' Here!

Are you heading to Alabama as your next family vacation destination? Then make sure you've curbed your appetite for bear wrestling, because it's prohibited in the state.

If you buck the system and try to wrestle Smokey to the ground outside of one of the many Alabama resorts, you'll be slapped with a lawsuit that says you've engaged in unlawful bear exploitation.

Rent the Car... Just Don't Spew Spittle Out the Window

Car and bus rentals are fine in Marietta, Georgia, and they might make your Georgia fun family vacation much easier.

However, please make certain no one in your vehicle decides to spit out their window while you look at the beautiful scenery on your way to your Georgia lodging, as you could be fined. (FYI: If you need to spit, rent a truck instead. The law doesn't appear to cover those types of vehicles.)

Kids for Sale? Not Here!

Sure, your children might get on your nerves during your family beach vacation, but that's no reason to sell them. Besides, in Florida, trying to get money for your offspring is strictly against the law.

You Wouldn't Dare!

Delaware condominiums your dream? Once there, don't dare two persons to get married. The couple can actually file for an annulment if your dare was the main impetus for their vows.

Don't Bring the Wrong Kind of "Trunk"!

If Florida is your family vacation destination of choice, it's best to leave your pet elephant at home. Should you decide to bring him or her with you, however, do take care not to tie him up at a parking meter unless you're prepared to pay for his "stay" in the parking place as though he were an automobile.

Braying Bath Time

Perhaps you're not the type to keep an elephant... maybe you're a donkey lover instead. Just have an alternate plan for washing your braying buddy if you're staying in Georgia. Washing the four-footed friend in a bathtub is forbidden there.

Under the Boardwalk? Don't Disrobe!

Rehoboth Beach is a popular family vacation spot, but if you're there, don't change your clothes under the boardwalk. Although it might seem a natural decision, it's a big no-no. In fact, you aren't even supposed to remove your bathing suit in a public restroom. Do it in your hotel room instead.

Dominoes? Not Today!

It's Sunday... and you want to play a game of dominoes while staying at your Alabama resort. But stop before you open that game board. This day of the week is dominoes-free. (Try Parcheesi instead.)

Bearded and Strapless? You May Be in Trouble!

Guys, as lovely as your strapless evening gowns might be, it's illegal to wear them in public in Florida. Parade all around your Florida condo rooms if you'd like; just don't let those beaded beauties be seen in a public forum.

I Scream, You Scream... But We Can't Carry the Cone in Our Pockets Today

Finally, one state really takes the cake (and ice cream, too) for wackiest law on the books. In the Peach State, it's perfectly dandy to carry an ice cream cone in your back pocket Monday through Saturday; yet don't try it on the Sabbath Day. That's against the law.

Consequently, if you're dying for a cool treat as you lounge on a Sunday at your Florida accommodations, it's probably wise to enjoy a fruity popsicle instead just to reduce the temptation. Alternatively, you could always wear pocket-less pants, thus eliminating the opportunities for such creamy "criminal" behavior.

Choosing a family vacation destination for this year? Wait until you hear about some of the wackiest laws throughout the United States that might just apply to your beach, mountain, or golfing destination.

Internet the World at Your Command

What is your favorite way to explore a country? Taking the next plane and leaving for a destination without packing? Watching a show on Discovery channel? Today there's no more need to wait for flying weather or the time they fixed on TV to let you have a look on Tadj Mahal or casinos of Las Vegas. Just set an Internet connection and - off we go!

Not everything is that simple however. Of course, Internet can help you to find information on a country and, if you don't want to stop at that point, to plan your whole journey there. But nowadays Internet is such huge and chaotic a system that normally it takes you a lot of time to hit the point and get THE information you're seeking for (especially if you don't know exactly what it really is). Fortunately, the Web doesn't just continue to be obstructed with information but also tends to a kind of self-organizing. Web-portals, encyclopedias, catalogs and even blogs are just the most expanded examples of multiple ways to organize information in Internet. Starting from my own experience of gathering geographical information on Internet for my work, I'd like to mention here some resources which can help if you need to have a closer look upon a country without wasting time.

The best way to start is to start with the beginning. Of course, basic information on a country can be found at a special Web-portal entirely dedicated to it. Normally, such portals are conceived by governments or tourist instances. In the first case, the information is usually very official. In the second case, you surely will be overwhelmed by ads popping up and flickering from any corner of the site. Besides, you may want to enlarge your knowledge outside the limits of official and commercial information. Then the most reasonable way is to use Wikipedia giving a quick slice of different spheres of country life and, otherwise, referring to other resources which may be useful to learn something more.

As soon as you have got the feel of the place, you probably will need to look at it with your own eyes. The resource you need for that is Google.Earth. Seeing once is better than hearing twice, so go ahead!

Proposing a deeper insight into the place you intend to learn about as well as onto its infrastructure, Google.Earth can seem however as chaotic as Internet itself. If your impressions join mine in this point, then you won't probably say no to http://citycatalogue.com. Probably being at a disadvantage before Google.Earth as for perfection of the idea and visual organization, Citycatalogue somehow offers, at the same level of globality, a clearer ordering system which makes it possible to find any infrastructural object at any point of the globe and get the most detailed information about it. Moreover: the structure of Citycatalogue is perfectly open: you can add your own object to the system by yourself, absolutely for free. Citycatalogue is a very useful recourse for traveling people. For example, if you want to go to the Moscow and you need any information about Moscow you just go to the Citycatalogue and get necessary information.

Your own - but still virtual - impressions from the country are now more or less complete. To have a more objective idea, the best thing to do is to visit some blogs and to read posts and comments by people having already taken a trip to the country of your interest. Blogosphere is well-organized enough to let you find your subject quickly and effectively by keyword search. Wordpress com/tag/travel/, blogcatalog com/directory/travel or vox.com are good departure points for exploring travel-centered blogs.

I hope these few pieces of advice will be helpful for you. And try not to get lost in the Net!

Rules of the road when travel in Vietnam

1. Obey the road rules if you can work out what they are
2. Maintain direction no matter what
3. Remember the shortest distance between two points is a straight line.
4. Expect the totally unexpected
5. Do not be surprised when a 10-metre boat slung on a pole between two motor cycles crosses the expressway in front of you.
6. Do not be surprised if, despite bird flu, a flock of ducks suddenly fills the entire the highway
7. Do not be surprised if a laden bus (or anything else) comes at you on the wrong side of an expressway.
8. Red traffic lights often seem to be only advisory
9. Do not stop immediately on a red light or someone behind will run into you
10. The man with the two full-size refrigerators on the back of his mortor cycle is NOT going to stop at a red light.
11. Traffic roundabouts are only a slight inconvenience to traffic
12. It's quite reasonable to go the wrong way up one-way streets
13. When doing something totally stupid like going the wrong way up a one-way street or into oncoming traffic, blast away on your horn
14. Ride with a finger pressed almost continuously on the horn since this is easier than obeying road rules
15. Just because you have four on the bike and are going the wrong way up a one-way street does not mean the police will stop you
16. Lights are not used during the day because they use too much electricity
17. Traffic lights can often be hidden behind trees or signs
18. "No left turn" signs are usually inconspicuous and can be moved from time to time
19. Just because you are turning left and on the left side of the carriageway doesn't mean someone will not pass you on the left to go straight ahead
20. Just because someone is on the left side of the carriage-way in front of you does not mean they do not intend to suddenly turn right
21. Ditto if they are on the right side of the road
22. Just because there is a wall of motorbikes spanning both sides of the road facing you, don't think you are necessarily heading into a one-way street.
23. Just because there is a car bearing down on you on your side of the road doesn't mean he's on the correct side of the road
24. Crash helmets are for putting in the basket at the front of your bike
25. Remember most car drivers don't own a cars - they own motorbikes and drive accordingly
26. Double ditto for bus drivers
27. If you are going to be hit by a car make sure it is not a government car
28. Avoid foreigners since most are riding Russian bikes and need to keep going or the engine cuts out
29. Avoid any drivers wearing a green hat as they are probably xe om drivers and thus feel they are right of way

Worlds 10 Most Unusual Hotels

They say that travel is about the journey, not just the destination. But if you've ever arrived at your destination only to find out that your hotel room is dingy, dirty, and miles from all the action, it's time to take matters into your own hands.

An increasing number of hotels are positioning themselves to be more than just a place to sleep-they are the action.

You may have heard of the ice hotel in Sweden or even funky spots like the Dog Bark Park in Cottonwood, Idaho ... but here are few more unusual hotels to inspire your next trip.

1. To the Lighthouse

Love all things nautical? Then try sleeping in a lighthouse.

There are actually dozens of lighthouses around the world that welcome overnight guests, but at Brown's Point Lighthouse in Tacoma, Washington, you get to be the lighthouse keeper.

This 30-foot concrete structure is perched by Commencement Bay and the keeper's dwelling (at right) was recently restored for overnight stays. Guest participate in the "keeper program," in which they maintain the lighthouse and hold public tours. This job is designed for at least two people, and six maximum, making it a great educational experience for families. Rates range from $500-$700 per week. 253-927-2536, www.pointsnortheast.org

2. Go Climb a Tree

If it seems like the days of kids clambering up trees and running around outdoors are a thing of the past, skip the sedentary vacations and force them out - and up.

The Cedar Creek Treehouse is a private mountain retreat in the woods of Mt. Rainier, located 50 feet up in a 200-year-old Western Red Cedar tree.

Owner Bill Compher built the treehouse himself, making it large enough to accommodate up to five people.

There's a bathroom, kitchen and dining area, not to mention skylights and an observatory 100 feet up that offers great views from all around.

Though it's a safe climb up, kids under 10 are not allowed inside the treehouse. Rates are $250 for two people, and $25 for each additional guest. 360-569-2991, www.cedarcreektreehouse.com

3. All Aboard the Romance Train

To conjure up the romantic days of train travel, why not cozy up inside an actual train car for the night? The Northern Rail Traincar B&B in Two Harbors, Minnesota, is made up of connected rail cars with 18 guest rooms.

The Porter Suite sleeps two and includes a dinette and a private bath for $109-$139.

Located on 160 acres of forested land (about 25 minutes outside of Duluth), you have access to Lake Superior and Gooseberry Falls, plus outdoor activities like hiking and golfing. 877-834-0955; www.northernrail.net

4. Were You Raised in a Barn?

Located on the Puget Sound, just a ferry ride away from Seattle, is a quirky little spot designed for two. The Big Red Barn Getaway is a real barn built in the 1890s which has been renovated into a tiny inn.

You'll be surrounded by miles of unspoiled nature (and may even catch sight of a Bald Eagle). The historic Victorian seaport of Port Townsend is a 10-minute walk away, and Fort Worden State Park is only two minutes away, with gorgeous beaches and plenty of hiking trails. 360-301-1271, www.BigRedBarnGetaway.com

5. How About a Yurt?

Ever slept in a yurt? Even know what a yurt is?

These round, canvas dwellings were created by Mongolian nomads more than 2,000 years ago; it's an ingenious structure that sits sturdily on the ground and often can fit several people at once.

Treebones Resort in Big Sur, California, has 16 yurts along the ridge above the Pacific Ocean, four of which can fit families. You'll have the best ocean-view room in town. Rates are $170-$270 for two to four people, including a waffle breakfast. 877-424-4787, www.treebonesresort.com

6. Batting Around in a Cave

You may not know that there are several underground hotels in Cappadocia, Turkey (a region in the middle of Turkey not too far from Ankara), but the most highly touted one of all is the Gamirasu Cave Hotel, which is located inside a restored, thousand-year-old Byzantine monastic retreat. There are 18 exquisitely adorned rooms, some of which were actually monk cells, which are carved into the cave or built with volcanic rock.

Don't worry, there is running water. Room rates range from about $110 for a double room to about $500 for a deluxe suite. www.gamirasu.com

7. Digging the Dug-Out

The Australian outback is filled with opal mines and dugouts galore-so dive in and experience one first-hand at the Desert Cave Hotel located within the sandstone of Coober Pedy.

The hotel boasts 19 underground rooms, and about 30 rooms above ground for those who prefer not to live troglodyte-style. Also underground are casinos, shops featuring locally mined opals and Aboriginal arts and crafts. Rooms are about $150 a night, not including meals or a cave tour. www.desertcave.com.au

8. Sleeping in the Pipelines

If you ever wanted to brag that you slept in a drainpipe, read on ... Daspark Hotel in Lintz, Austria consists of three concrete drainpipes in the middle of a park.

Inside each one is a teensy room built for two, with a double bed, a lamp, a small storage space, and even power outlets. Food, toilets and showers are all located nearby.

If you're concerned about sleeping in a public park, rest assured that the drainpipes are all locked with a safety code. And best of all, you get to determine your own rates. www.dasparkhotel.net

9. Sleeping with the Fishes

With both China and Dubai building underwater hotels called the Hydropolis, sleeping under water seems to the wave of the future. China is hoping to have its land-based HydroTower component open by the Olympics, but if you can't wait until then, visit the Jules Verne Undersea Lodge.

This underwater hotel is actually a research lab in Key Largo, Florida, but regular landlubbers are invited to spend the night. You'll actually have to scuba dive your way into the hotel, but they'll give you all the necessary training. An overnight visit costs about $475 and includes diving gear and unlimited dives if you're certified. 305-451-2353, www.jul.com

10. Doing Time

The new Liberty Hotel in Boston has been making headlines as a former jail-turned-luxury-hotel. After a five-year renovation program that cost upward of $150 million, the Charles Street jail has maintained some precious features that pay homage to its history-such as a restaurant called Clink, and a bar called Alibi housed in the former "drunk tank."

But if you're looking for a more, well, authentic prison experience, you'll have to jet yourself over to Latvia to the Karosta Prison. Located in Liepaja (about three hours west of Riga), this former Soviet detention facility was once known as the "prison that nobody escaped from."

Today, it welcomes (if that's the right word) visitors to spend a night for about $16.

Guests play the role of a prisoner, complete with ex-Soviet military guards berating and ordering you around, cold iron beds, and toilets that remain uncomfortably close to their original state. http://www.karostascietums.lv/1/EN/news

Looking for old-time artistic Paris

The buzzling Montmartre district is one of the places to visit in this sense. It was here that during the 19th century, poets and artists gathered. The shortest road leaves from Place Blanche and climbs the lively Rue Lepic market street, continuing on along Rue de Abbesses, Rue Ravignon and other flights of steps.

A spectacular view of the city it is offered by taking the rack-railway to the Roman- Byzantine Sacre Coeur church. It is around there and more precisely at Place du Tertre, a picturesque square and high-point of Paris, that portrait artists and souvenir sellers still congregate.

In this zone it is possible to stroll through the narrow twisting streets, squares and walk along the small hill-side terraces. Another arty district located on the east bank of the Seine is the Germain-de-Pres home to cafes, jazz-clubs and antique shops. It is an area which was frequented by intellectuals during the 1950's and 60's at the time of Novelle Vague. The well-known Lipp brasserie, decorated with multi-coloured tiles, is a favourite meeting point for politicians, while Les Deux Margots, the preferred choice of Hemingway, is still popular today (6, Place du Saint-Germain-des-Pr?; ph :+33 01.45.48.55.25).

Home to French poets Rimbaud, his friend Verlaine, and Mallarm?nd painter Picasso, as well as a score of other creatives, Les Deux Magots is a ode to history. Taking it's name from the Chinese fabric shop that had the space before it, it has been an institution since the late 1800s and the decor is from 1914. This caf?s incredibly expensive, but, you might only be in Paris once in your life... or you can afford a plain coffee. Caf?e Flore (172, Boulevard Saint Germain ; ph :+33 01.45.48.55.26) in the same district, is one of the rare caf?hat during WW II was able to serve its customers underneath the bombs.

On its chairs some of the most famous writers, philosophers and artists spent entire days dialoguing and building up a new idea of society: Picasso, Sartre, De Beavoir, Giacometti were some of its clients. The city's other artist's district is Montparnasse, frequented by such artists as Picasso and Matisse. The district, situated on the left bank, is the site of Carrefour Vavin with its studios and cafes, very popular during the 1920's and 30's. Today the area houses cinemas and restaurants and is the site of the second largest tower in Europe, the glass and steel Tour de Montparnasse. The Montparnasse Cemetry, situtated in Rue Emile Richard, is the resting place of writers, poets and sculpturers ( De Maupassant, Sartre, De Beauvoir, Tzara, Baudelaire).

We cannot miss to remind the oldest restaurant in Paris: The Procope and the first caf?opened in 1686. (13, Rue de l'Ancienne Com?e; Ph. +33 01 40 46 79 00; Metro:Od?) The owner was Francesco Procopio Dei Coltelli. In 1689, the Com?e-Fran?se moved to opposite the Procope and, between shows, the caf?ecame THE caf?or theatre-goers and actors. Voltaire, Rousseau and Diderot were loyal regulars and the Encyclopaedia was born under the crystal centre-lights of the Procope. During the revolution, Danton, Marat could all be found here. Benjamin Franklin even fine-tuned the American constitution here. Menu from 30 euros.

After dinner you might try a drink with some cool jazz at the Bob Cool (15, Rue des Grands Augustin; Metro Station: Od? or St-Michel; ph: 01-46-33-33-77). A laid back left bank bar, this attracts the kind of crowds you'd expect from the left bank-old style. Writers, poets and artists are said to gather here to drink the night away.

Some hotels in the area are worth mentioning starting with the Bac Saint Germain hotel, Taylor Hotel, Mon Reve and Des Artes hotels. They all keep a very nice French atmosphere, with colourful rooms and stylish lounges where to relax or drink something. Very value for money and location also.

Puerto Vallarta - A deep sea fishing delight!

If you have ever considered a vacation in Mexico, the odds are good that you have heard about lovely Puerto Vallarta. This city has become a Mecca to tourists from all over North America. It has all the sun and the low prices that Canadian and American tourists love in Mexico, and it has a very diverse range of activities to enjoy.

Part of the reason for Puerto Vallarta's popularity is the many recreational opportunities afforded by the city's location on the Pacific Ocean. Combined with the tropical atmosphere in a city that lies in close proximity to rain forests as well as beaches, many new services have begun which cater to the tastes of individual tourists. Although the rest of Mexico may have some appeal insofar as festive atmosphere, tourists looking for more than heat and bars will always be attracted to this city.

One of the most original activities, as far as Mexican tourism, that is run out of the city of Puerto Vallarta is deep-sea fishing. This activity is embraced all along the Pacific Coast, from Alaska in the north right down to Argentina in the south. Puerto Vallarta residents as well as entrepreneurs from other countries, having recognized the commercial value of a deep-sea fishing industry that appeals to tourists, have developed several ventures running out of the city.

Species

Aside from the great weather that makes deep sea fishing in the Mexican Pacific such a delight, there are species available to the deep sea sport fisherman out of Puerto Vallarta that offer some of the biggest thrills that sport fishing has to offer.

There are three species of marlin that call the waters around Puerto Vallarta home, all of them trophy potential. They include the blue, black, and striped species; marlin is the true prize of any committed angler, a fish that combines just the right amounts of difficulty in tempting and landing, not to mention a certain amount of danger!

Other deep-sea fish species that can be caught out of Puerto Vallarta include mahi mahi, yellow fin tuna, the incredible sailfish, grouper, and wahoo. All of these fish species make for excellent eating as well as perfect mounted or photographed trophy for your wall.

There is no better souvenir from your Mexican vacation than the one that brings back memories of hard work and companionship, and deep-sea fishing out of Puerto Vallarta is a sure way to get these souvenirs.

Thinking of a vacation in Puerto Vallarta, the fishing is great and so are the villas.

Mutiny to Tahiti and French Polynesia

Since the age of explorers Wallis, Bougainville, and Cook, legendary Tahiti has tickled imaginations worldwide. More recently, Tahiti became the most famous Polynesian island of all when Clark Gable (1935), Marlon Brando (1962), and Mel Gibson (1984) played the role of Fletcher Christian in three blockbuster Mutiny on the Bounty films. Even the horrendous French nuclear testing program from 1966-1996 did little to dampen this image.

For the modern traveler, there's no getting around the fact that French Polynesia is expensive. Bora Bora is easily the most upscale tourist destination in the South Pacific with 17 resorts charging over US$250 double a night without meals. Yet it's also true that you can greatly reduce your costs if you book your top end hotel rooms as part of a package tour. Another option is to stay in small locally-operated pensions. Bora Bora has seven hostels and pensions in the US$50-100 range and Moorea has 11. On Moorea you can also camp.

Most visitors get around the islands by air, and Air Tahiti operates efficient services to 46 islands and atolls in French Polynesia. Here again, you can save money by purchasing one of Air Tahiti's 28-day air passes. A Society Islands air pass will cost around US$400, or US$550 if you add on the Tuamotu Islands. The only interisland boat trip which is easy to do is Tahiti to Moorea which operates every two hours and costs US$10. Passenger-carrying cargo boats do ply from Tahiti to Bora Bora several times a week, but they're basic and the overnight trip can be rough. If you want to experience the boat trip one way, you're better off flying from Tahiti to Bora Bora and then returning to Tahiti by boat. I explain why in my guidebook, Moon Tahiti.

Car rentals in French Polynesia average US$100 a day - expensive! Options include renting a bicycle instead of a car (on Moorea and Bora Bora) or traveling by le truck or public bus (on Tahiti). Four-wheel-drive safari tours are offered on all the main islands and these are also cheaper than renting a car. On Moorea, Huahine, Raiatea, and Bora Bora, there are sightseeing tours by outrigger canoe.

When to go? May to October is the cooler, less humid time, although prolonged rainfall is possible yearround. An optimum time to be there is for the Heiva festival on Tahiti, Huahine, and Bora Bora in early July. Whatever, don't miss attending at least one Island Night at a fancy resort for the wild tamure dancing and drumming. These happen several times a week. You can often avoid the high cost of the buffet by settling for a drink at the bar.

One thing you won't encounter in French Polynesia - unless you spend most of your time at a large resort - is a tourist glut. French Polynesia gets only 200,000 tourists a year compared to the six million who visit Hawaii. Geographically, Tahiti is actually east of Hawaii, and the flight from Los Angeles to Tahiti takes only 7.5 hours, just 2.5 hours more than it takes to fly to Hawaii. My most memorable experience in French Polynesia? The cruise to the Marquesas Islands on the Aranui, something I hope to do again very soon.

Since the age of explorers Wallis, Bougainville, and Cook, legendary Tahiti has tickled imaginations worldwide.
